Clarify what evidence the profession and process need, and whether the evaluator can assess the actual completed qualification. Paying early does not repair missing academic facts.
Ask what a second review would cost
Obtain the scope and identify whether later records would require a new report. Treat evaluation charges separately from government fees and relocation commitments.
First identify what the profession requires and whether the evaluator offers an update rather than a second report. Obtain a written scope, required records, and update charge before paying. Preserve evaluation expenses separately from travel and professional advice without quoting a filing-fee estimate. The frequent mistake is ordering a report on an interim transcript that cannot establish completion. TN is limited to Canadian or Mexican citizens; permanent residence in Canada is not enough. The proposed work must be prearranged for a U.S. employer or foreign employer in a USMCA Appendix 2 to Annex 16-A profession, with its own minimum credential, and cannot be self-employment.
Hypothetical example: A Russell chemist educated partly outside North America expects a final Canadian transcript after a research project is graded. Her American coatings manufacturer wants an early cost estimate. She should send the evaluator the programme history and ask whether waiting will avoid duplicate review, while the manufacturer verifies that the duties and contract truly concern professional chemistry. Buying an incomplete opinion merely to hold a start date can create two expenses and inconsistent documents. Once the complete qualification is supportable, a Canadian applicant may use a port of entry or an employer-filed Form I-129, accompanied by the real employer letter or contract.
